In her current research, Dr. Chelsea Berry has concentrated on the movement and interaction between ideas of affliction and medical care in the context of slave society in the western Atlantic. Join us for the November Student History Club Noon Lecture to hear her discuss the intersection of medicine, slavery, and poison accusations from 1680 to 1850.

Dr. Chelsea Berry grew up in the woods in the great state of Vermont, and over the course of her career has steadily been moving south—trading fall foliage for spring cherry blossoms. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Atlantic history at Randolph College in Lynchburg, VA, and hard at work on her first book manuscript, entitled Poisoned Relations: Healing, Power, and Poison Trials in the Contested Atlantic, 1680-1850. A piece of this larger work has been published in an edited volume Medicine and Healing in the Age of Slavery (2021).

The lecture will take place Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 12 PM EST on Zoom. This event is open to the public. Seating is limited and registration is required by Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 6 PM to reserve your seat and receive login information.
